PEOPLE POWER PERKS UP PARK

“If you want happiness for an hour – take a nap. If you want happiness for a day – go fishing. If you want happiness for a year – inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a life time – help someone else.”

– Chinese proverb

Avoiding competition from FQ fest, we moved our annual our annual Spring “Green and Clean” action to Earth Day this year, only to learn the PRC is doing a tour in the ‘hood of some of our beautiful shotgun homes on the same day!
Some of our best volunteers are docents, and I haven’t figured how they can be in two places at once yet. Fortunately, Nancy Shepard and Rex Poling got the “duty” in early, picking up 20 Shishi Gashira Camellia’s part of a bed design from Hailey Bowen of Parks and Parkways for the area at the corner of Esplanade and Bell.

If you can make it this morning, please do, as we took on a big project and need the power of the people.
I hope we can:
get the litter up
bag tons of oak leaves
rake lawns of thatch
clean dirt from gutters
plant cleanup under guidance of landscapers Will and Kelly
weed the liriope beds and rose garden
all this along with the bed construction and camellia planting

I have high hopes our dedication levels will be sufficient to accomplish great things!

TODAY: 10 am to 2 pm – Saturday, Aprill 22nd, 2017 on Esplanade at Crete in Capdevielle Park

If all you can do is spend a minute or two, thanking the workers is a worthwhile task too!

This year we are working with Keep Louisiana Beautiful during this Great American Cleanup

Friends and Neighbors,

Its time again for our annual Springtime neighborhood park volunteer day. Over the last two years our little park, Capdevielle Park (Esplanade and Crete), has improved through our citizen efforts greatly. Litter is down, people spread blankets on the grass and read, children run and play and flowers bloom in the center bed now. These park activities are the direct result of action by residents volunteering and working with Park and Parkways Dept.

This year, Saturday April 22 (Earth Day) we need to keep the momentum going. Another neglected flower bed is targeted for rehab, and using a donation of pavers from the Gauthier family, we can make the bed at Esplanade and Bell another visual delight. Of course the raking, weeding, litter collection, gutter cleaning….the usual tasks needs to be done. But the creation of the “point bed” should be an accomplishment for us to see real results and enjoy for many years.

Please plan to come by between 10am and 2pm and join with your neighbors in making a difference.

Bring tools, rakes, shovels, wheel barrows. And as always contributions to help with expenses are welcome.

Also this year, the PRC Shotgun House Tour in Faubourg St John will also be underway at that time, so it will be an opportunity for us to show off our neighborly resolve to enhance and improve our public spaces in this special community. We are also proud to associate with the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup. Many thanks for the donated garbage bags for the cleanup.

Hope to see you all on April 22nd!
